Local produce, baked goods, flowers, and community spirit – all on display, every week! CSED proudly supports all local farmers markets, co-ops and food buying clubs as a key ingredient of ensuring Food Security for the Lower 9th Ward year round.

Sankofa Farmers Market, a project of Sankofa CDC
The Sankofa Farmers Market, a project of Sankofa Community Development Corporation, was established in 2010 to provide access to fresh produce, meats, seafood, baked goods and more in New Orleans’ underserved and low income communities. It serves as a community anchor and stimulates the economy for local farmers, fishers and food producers within a neighborhood gathering space. The Market also supports an awakening interest in healthier living within a community afflicted with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. It is the only open-air fresh market in the Ninth Ward area within a five-mile radius of the Treme, Seventh Ward, Faubourg Marigny, French Quarter, Gentilly and Mid-City neighborhoods.

The Market continues its phenomenal growth with new vendors and products and is located at 3819 St. Claude Avenue. Every Saturday, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. See you there!
