Where do we begin? Every block of every Lower 9 neighborhood reflects the hard work and dedication of CSED volunteers over the past six years. From cleaning up yards, empty lots and entire city blocks to hanging sheetrock, painting (interior and exterior) – even building wheelchair ramps and rain gardens – our volunteers make a difference in the lives of Lower Ninth Ward residents every month. They’ve even re-painted picket fences and restored churches.

Just a few ways our volunteers are helping to revitalize our sense of community:

  • CSED Blight Beautification Programs help to clean up and board abandoned homes to make our community much safer and more attracting to returning and new residents.
  • Recently we hosted part of a 400-person youth mission group, “Alive in You”, representing several different states.
  • Barry Law School (Orlando, Florida) – returning for their 4th year – worked with CSED staff to rebuild inside of the Morning Star Baptist Church.
