They say it takes a village: togetherness, collaboration, working toward a common goal – something the Lower 9th Ward knows well. Here, every week you’ll see community gatherings: residents joining together to plan, decide, debate – true civic action at work. And nearly every day of the week, year round, you can find residents along any Lower Ninth Ward street restoring homes, churches and businesses, playgrounds – or perhaps working at the bayou, building a garden, improving a community center (often with the help of volunteers).
In a word, that’s why we call the Lower 9 HOME. For residents, there are plenty of opportunities to participate – to voice your opinions and concerns. Supporting our community also means offering a unique blend of services and volunteer assistance designed to help homeowners and business owners save energy costs, improve property values and revitalize our community.
Are you a resident of Lower 9? Are you signed up with us? Please stop by the CSED office at 5130 Chartres St. (at Lizardi) and come in the back door and meet our staff. Find out how we can help you and your neighbors, and what we are doing to bring Lower 9 back!
